BAASIC Workshop Brainstorm
Why do you think the numbers are this way?
Reflect on your own education and whether or not you had Asian American role models in education and how they might/might not have affected you?
What is it like being an Asian American educator?
What did you grow up thinking you’d be?
What do your parents want you to be?
What are different roles in education that you can have? Which ones have impacted you?
Asians and expectations around accents and where did you learn you couldn’t be a teacher?
What might prevent Asians from being teachers? Within the culture? Within the education system?
Glass ceilings—Asians need to be over qualified.
What do you want out of your career?
What makes a good teacher good?
Think of a teacher that impacted you?
Why did you come to this session? What are you worried about? What are some of the “but’s” that are preventing you from jumping in.
Affirmation as opposed to persuasion
Need a nudge/guidance – what you might need to do as opposed to COME!
